Who called us: a customer with a full dumpster on a remote mountain property in the San Diego County backcountry.
The situation
Some properties sit at the end of a steep, unpaved mountain road, and plenty of dumpster companies simply will not go. A standard roll-off truck needs room to maneuver and a surface it can trust, so a narrow, graded dirt road with a fully loaded 20-yard dumpster at the top is exactly the kind of job that gets turned down. This one had to come out, and it had to come out before dark, when a loaded truck on a mountain road gets a lot less forgiving.
What we did
We took the call and drove up. Our two-axle hooklift truck is built for exactly this: it gets into tight, steep, unpaved spots a standard roll-off rig cannot, and it hooks and loads a heavy dumpster without needing much room. We backed in, hooked the full 20-yard, and eased it up onto the truck on the uneven ground, then worked the loaded rig carefully back down the mountain while there was still light.
The outcome
The full dumpster came off the mountain and down to the landfill on the same visit, before dark. No second trip, no sorry-we-cannot-get-up-there, and no damage to a property that is not easy to reach in the first place. Just the load gone and the site left clear.
